BUY an apartment. Furnish it. Put it on Airbnb and let the bookings help pay the mortgage.

It is an increasingly familiar investment plan among Jamaicans looking to get into the property market, particularly with new apartment developments going up across Kingston and St Andrew, St Catherine, and St Ann.

But making the numbers work is becoming harder as more units compete for bookings and owners face costs that can easily be overlooked.
