(Kaieteur News) Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Governance, Gail Teixeira, has directly engaged the Leader of the Opposition to formally initiate key constitutional consultations regarding appointments to three major bodies, the Local Government Commission (LGC), the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), and the Public Service Commission (PSC).
Official correspondence seen by this newspaper reveals that Minister Teixeira wrote directly to the Leader of the Opposition, Azruddin Mohamed, on 24th July, 2026, on behalf of the President to initiate the consultation process for appointments to the commissions.
Regarding the Local Government Commission, Teixeira referenced Section 4(1)(b) of the Local Government Commission Act 2013, noting that the tenure of the body had expired. She advised that the Commission shall consist of, inter alia, three members appointed by the President acting on the advice of the Leader of the Opposition after consultation with other parliamentary parties, requesting that Mohamed consult accordingly and advise the Head of State.
