FORMER Tobago House of Assembly secretary Hilton Sandy is recovering after he was beaten by bandits who broke into his home at Delpeche Drive, Bacolet Gardens, late on Tuesday night.
Reports indicate that the intruders gained entry to the rear of the former Infrastructure Secretary’s residence before making their way into the house. The bandits reportedly smashed a sliding door at the front of the property and entered the home, where they confronted Sandy who was asleep. During the incident Sandy, who previously suffered a stroke in September 2013, was assaulted by the intruders. A number of valuables were stolen and the suspects removed the installed camera system before escaping.
When the Express visited yesterday broken pieces of glass were observed to the front doorway of the living room. The Express attempted to interview with the former THA Secretary, 80, following the incident but he had difficulty speaking, likely due to the stroke. During the visit Sandy’s caregiver and daughter were present.
