Twenty-two-year-old Deandrell Semple will remain behind bars pending sentencing for the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Jared Jagnandan. This comes after a jury on Friday found him guilty of manslaughter, prompting the High Court in Demerara to revoke his $1 million bail. Semple, of Kingelly Village, West Coast Berbice (WCB), was remanded following an 11-to-one majority verdict, with 11 jurors finding him guilty of manslaughter and one finding him not guilty. The verdict was delivered before acting Chief Justice Navindra Singh.
He had been on bail throughout the proceedings but was taken into custody after the jury returned its decision, bringing his freedom pending trial to an end.
The jury’s verdict came after Justice Singh delivered his summation of the evidence on Friday.
