‘Guyana prepared for any reaction to ICJ Essequibo ruling’ - President Ali

(Kaieteur News) – Guyana is prepared for any fallout following the upcoming ruling by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on its long-standing border dispute with Venezuela over the Essequibo region, President Irfaan Ali has stated.

Addressing the security dynamic in an interview with Al Jazeera on Sunday, President Ali affirmed that while political changes in Caracas have eased regional rhetoric, Guyana remains vigilant regarding its territorial integrity.

“We are prepared for any reaction to the court ruling,” President Ali said, acknowledging the hostile rhetoric from Caracas while expressing confidence in international law. “The court is going to determine the merits of words and facts and then when the court determines that, what is left before us is how do we walk back from sometimes the harsh realities of your own words.”
