DEPUTY Commissioner of Police DCP (operations) Junior Benjamin said, in his personal view, the country did not need a curfew at this time, when asked if the current state of emergency (SoE) needed bolstering. He said police measures which were now under-way have been yielding adequate results.
Newsday spoke to Benjamin, a former acting police commissioner, on July 23, some six days after the SoE was declared by President Christine Kangaloo and initially announced by Commissioner of Police (CoP) Allister Guevarro.
Guevarro, in disclosing the SoE, had said an amalgamation of criminal gangs had drafted a hit-list of public officials, including several in the criminal justice system.
