The United National Congress (UNC) victory in the 2025 general election represents a major tectonic shift, says former attorney general Anand Ramlogan.
“Kamla Persad-Bissessar will must be credited as the first Indo-Trinbagonian political leader from the UNC to have really crossed the racial divide,” he said in an interview with the Express on Tuesday.
“She united the country on her own. Unlike the People’s Partnership, which had to run under a different name to be palatable, as the NAR (National Alliance for Reconstruction). Historically the UNC would not have been able to run as the flag-bearer because it would not have been palatable enough to win an election. But Kamla to her credit stood her ground and this time around, for this first time, we ran properly under the United National Congress,” he added.
