Despite reports that the US was poised to launch land strikes within Venezuelan territory amid its campaign to tackle drug trafficking in the region, its President appeared before a meeting of greater Caribbean leaders this afternoon, claiming Venezuela's ‘innocence.’
Earlier today US President Donald Trump and US State Secretary Marco Rubio both denied international reports of impending land attacks on the South American country- a consideration Trump had previously made as the US carried out lethal kinetic strikes on alleged drug carrying vessels in the Caribbean Sea.
Before these strikes began in September, the Trump administration doubled a US$25 million reward for information leading to Maduro’s arrest. It claimed that the Venezuelan leader helped manage and lead the Cartel of the Suns- a drug trafficking organization it claims is composed of high ranking Venezuelan officials.
