The Guyana Civ­il Avi­a­tion Au­thor­i­ty (GCAA) is in­ves­ti­gat­ing whether a po­ten­tial­ly ma­jor in­ci­dent in­volv­ing a Trinidad-based Caribbean Air­lines (CAL) 737 MAX 8 pas­sen­ger jet 737 MAX 8 was taxi­ing and a do­mes­tic air­line was avert­ed Mon­day night at the Ched­di Ja­gan In­ter­na­tion­al Air­port (CJIA) as a re­sult of an al­leged run­way in­cur­sion.

GCAA Di­rec­tor-Gen­er­al, re­tired Lt. Col. Eg­bert Field, said that in keep­ing with pro­ce­dures, the pi­lots of the Ro­raima Air­ways-owned Brit­ten Nor­man Is­lander air­craft have since been ground­ed by the avi­a­tion reg­u­la­tor pend­ing the out­come of an in­ves­ti­ga­tion in­to the “run­way in­cur­sion”.

“One air­craft was taxi­ing and the oth­er was about to land. It is good that one air­craft stopped well short of the oth­er air­craft while it was on the run­way,” Field said the Guyana-based De­mer­ara Waves On­line News.
