The Trinidad Youth Coun­cil is call­ing for a more car­ing health sys­tem fol­low­ing the death of six-year-old Jash­er Fran­cois at the San Fer­nan­do Teach­ing Hos­pi­tal.

As the world marks In­ter­na­tion­al Youth Day to­day (Au­gust 12), the TYC says Jash­er’s death un­der­scores “the ur­gent need to bet­ter safe­guard the na­tion’s youth.”

Ac­cord­ing to the Coun­cil, the child’s death has re­vealed what it calls “a heart­break­ing lack of com­pas­sion and care from those en­trust­ed with treat­ing the sick.”
