Thousands of Venezuelans are rallying in support of President Nicolás Maduro and their country, signing up to join the military in preparation for any potential invasion by the United States.
Last week, in response to news that US President Donald Trump’s administration had deployed three warships off the coast of Venezuela to target drug cartels, Maduro pledged to mobilise 4.5 million militant fighters in defence of Venezuela. He described the US actions as an “illegal” attempt at regime change.
Maduro stated on his Facebook page yesterday: “I congratulate the men and women on foot, the Venezuelan youth and also the grandfathers and grandmothers of the homeland who have come massively to the Great Military Enlistment Day, which today, Sunday, August 24, will continue adding the commitment of a conscious people that say strong: I’m getting ready!
