This was the word used by Venezuelan Minister of Defence and Sovereignty General Vladimir Padrino López in denouncing Trinidad and Tobago’s welcoming of American military presence in the region, and recalling centuries-old fears that Trinidad could serve as a launching point for foreign incursions through the Orinoco River.
His statements come as guided-missile destroyers and ships carrying 4,500 sailors and 2,200 Marines have made or are making their way to the region as part of what the US President Donald Trump’s administration has called an effort to combat drug trafficking.
