The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) says that a rupture in the fire suppression system on the 6th floor of the Police Administration Building has caused significant damage to secured physical records, including Firearm Users Licence (FUL) files, Human Resources documents, internal memos, and other administrative files.
The incident occurred at approximately 12:45 p.m. following a series of power outages and fire alarm activations across several floors. According to the TTPS, the building’s fire suppression system, intended to protect critical records, became the source of the damage when a waterline failed, flooding a secure room and rendering many documents irrecoverable.
While digital records exist for each FUL application, the TTPS noted that they do not include digital copies of the original submitted documents. This gap is due to the new digital application system, set to launch in the coming weeks, not being in place at the time those files were created.
