A group of 20 nationals is expressing frustration over being denied a United Kingdom (UK) visa after each spent about $41,000 on a planned trip to Greece next month, with two stopovers in London.
Their travel plans were already in motion, with downpayments made throughout 2024, months before the UK government implemented visa requirements for Trinidad and Tobago nationals in March. This marked a major shift after decades of visa-free travel for T&T citizens to the UK.
On Sunday, the Express published an article highlighting that travel agencies have seen a decline of up to 80% in bookings to London since the imposition of the visa requirement. One agency even cited the group of more than 20 people who were recently denied. Speaking on behalf of the group on Monday, Jiselle Mohammed described the situation as unfair, noting that despite paying thousands in non-refundable travel expenses and submitting what they believed were comprehensive applications, all members were refused.
