A house fire believed to have been started by an overheating cellphone left the upper floor of a Buen Intento Road home partially destroyed and one man being taken to hospital with burns.
At around 7:45 a.m., Leslyn Ramkisson, 63, was asleep when he was jolted awake by intense heat coming from his mattress. He discovered it ablaze, the fire originating near the spot where his Samsung J7 had been charging.
In an attempt to remove the burning mattress from the home, Ramkisson inadvertently spread the fire to other parts of the upper floor. He suffered burns to his hands and feet during the effort.
