Trinidad and To­ba­go na­tion­al Dr Everold Ho­sein com­plet­ed his 40th con­sec­u­tive New York City Marathon this past Sun­day. He is 80 years old, and this marks his ninth marathon since a heart at­tack nine years ago. Ho­sein is a Dis­tin­guished Schol­ar at City Uni­ver­si­ty of New York/School of Pub­lic Health.

He said he beat a few younger run­ners and nine oc­to­ge­nar­i­ans.

Nine years ago, Dr Ho­sein ex­pe­ri­enced a heart at­tack with no dra­mat­ic symp­toms a few days af­ter run­ning the 2016 New York City Marathon. His heart rate was low, and he ex­pe­ri­enced fre­quent short­ness of breath. He was lat­er di­ag­nosed with a heart at­tack and re­ceived a stent and a pace­mak­er. He re­turned to the marathon a year lat­er, fin­ish­ing with one of his slow­est times.
