A violent home invasion occurred in the Belmont area on the evening of November 20, leaving a family and a senior government official shaken.
Around 7:15 p.m., a 52-year-old Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Trade, Investment and Tourism was driving a white Subaru Cross Trek into the driveway of a residence in Cascade. Awaiting her were a 73-year-old man and a 12-year-old child, who went out to assist with groceries. At that moment, four masked intruders approached the group.
One of the suspects was armed with a knife, while another brandished a firearm. The group forced the victims back into the home, where the 73-year-old was struck with the firearm. The assailants proceeded to search the house and seized multiple valuables. Items taken included wallets containing identification cards, bank cards, and cash amounts of $400, $100, and $500. Electronics such as an iPhone 14, a Nintendo Switch, a Samsung A27, a 75-inch television, and an iPhone 15 were also stolen, alongside two sets of vehicle keys and a set of house keys.
