Pope Leo, the first Pope from the United States, yesterday urged alternative routes of resolving tensions between Venezuela and the US, as US President Donald Trump spoke expanding military attacks to land as part of an operation to counter drug trafficking in the region.
Speaking to journalists on board the Papal flight on Tuesday the Pope said the local bishops and the Nuncio (a Papal ambassador from the Catholic Church to a foreign court or government) were searching for ways to calm the situation down.
“...mostly for the good people because very often it's the people who suffer in these situations and not the authorities,” he said.
