A COUSIN of Andrea Bharatt-the court clerk who was kidnapped and killed in 2021-has become the first murder victim since the start of the state of emergency (SoE) on Friday.

Ryan Bharatt, 35, a truck driver and small business owner who lived in Church Street, Carapo, was shot in the head around 12.30 a.m. yesterday after stepping outside to move his van.

Not long after, police arrived and found Bharatt breathing. He was taken to the Arima General Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 1.14 a.m.
