A Spanish-speaking man identified as Edimir Gonzales was killed by an off-duty police officer on Independence Day after attacking a prison officer.
Police reported that the prison officer was at the corner of Mercline Drive and Longdenville Old Road around 2.30 am when Gonzales struck him.
The 25-year-old hit the officer in the head before grabbing a knife and charging at him.
