The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) on Tuesday said the six soldiers who were shot after being ambushed by masked gunmen in the Cuyuni River on Monday, were medically evacuated to the capital for urgent follow-up medical care.
“The health and well-being of our personnel remain the highest priority, and all necessary measures are being taken to ensure they receive the best possible treatment. Additionally, the families of the affected ranks have been contacted and are being kept informed of their condition,” the GDF said in a release.
Earlier on Tuesday, Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, President Irfaan Ali in a statement said an army Bell 412 helicopter was en route to evacuate the injured soldiers.
